Agitation & Challenge Represent Mis-Alignment
I had a lovely reminder this week of how agitation and challenges can be a message from my body-mind telling me that I'm not in alignment with my truth.
Several months ago I agreed to do a 7 week Ayurveda PH Balancing diet regime with a couple friends. I think my thought process at the time was 1) cool - something new to explore and 2) I'm studying Ayurveda so this would be a great opportunity to check out some real life experiences. Both of those were valid. However, I discovered last week as I was in my first week of this regime, that those reasons did not necessarily represent a complete truth for myself in the now. How did I come to know this, you might ask? Resistance, half-hearted compliance with the diet, a feeling of extreme dissatisfaction about eating lentils every day, self-sabotaging behavior, cravings for foods that weren't on "the plan"…in other words, agitation and challenges.
On the surface all these behaviors and struggles might be seen as a lack of self will and commitment, which is partially true, and a person could go into a space of self-beratement over their lack. Doing so would block the valuable underlying message that the resistance is the symptom that the goal or process is somehow out of alignment with your core. For myself, I was able to step back and see that:
- My behaviors and mindset was reflecting that I wasn't committed to this process at this time…the question then was why?
- Following the why, I realized that although I do feel like I have some imbalance, I wasn't sure of the source. Though I think it is excess Kapha, one of the three body types/energies that exists in all things in life, I'm still too new in Ayurveda to truly know. Therefore, this particular 7 week regime might not serve my imbalance in this moment. It was a random idea that didn't really fit my current needs.
- From this, my inspired action was to make an appointment to see an Ayurvedic practitioner and discover where my imbalance is and what I might need.
Notice that I still meet my same original goal, to explore something new and have a real life experience with Ayurveda, but that form took on a different role. And from this clarification, acceptance, and new action I know feel at peace and my food choices are back to a state of balance with ease rather than struggle.
The idea of life feeling good and flowing with ease when the action or process is in alignment with your core truth coincides with a system called the The Emotional Guidance System by Jerry & Esther Hicks in their book "Ask and It is Given". The basic premise is that if your emotions are positive and you feel good, you are in alignment with Source. If your emotions are negative and don’t feel good, you are less in alignment with Source. It’s as simple as that.
So if you are feeling agitated and experiences challenges and obstacles in your life, take a look at what you're doing and see if it really is in alignment with your core or what your truth in the moment is.
